It happens fast, and it’s a mess. That’s why we use explosion-proof quartz. It keeps things from turning into a disaster.
Why the “Explosion-Proof” Stuff Actually Works
Standard quartz is okay, but it can’t handle a sudden, sharp change in temperature in one tiny spot. Our tubes go through a tempering process that puts a layer of compressive stress on the outside. So, if a crack does start, the internal stress holds it together. Instead of shattering into a thousand dangerous shards, the tube stays in one piece. We also wrap the whole thing in a sealed housing. Why? Because if moisture sneaks into the electrical terminals, you get arcing. And arcing is just a fancy way of saying your heater is about to burn out.
Picking the Right Gear
When you’re shopping for wet zones, check the seal rating and how thick the glass is. Now, there’s a bit of a trade-off here. Thicker glass can take a physical hit without breaking, but it takes a little longer to heat up. If you need that heat right now, go with a thinner tube—just make sure you’ve got a heavy-duty cage around it to protect it. And please, do yourself a favor:**don’t use standard PVC wiring.**It’ll melt and short out in a few hours. Stick with silicone or fiberglass braided wire so you aren’t replacing your connections every single week.
A Few Tips for the Install
These lamps put out some serious heat. If you mount them too close to plastic panels or anything that can catch fire, you’re asking for trouble. Give yourself at least 30cm of breathing room. Otherwise, you’ll probably end up warping your fixtures. One last thing—check your circuit breaker. These elements have a big surge of power the second they kick on. Make sure your breaker can handle that spike, or you’ll spend your whole day resetting the power.
