Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, sudden temperature jumps, and constant moisture. It’s basically a swamp in there. If a seal isn’t perfect or a quartz tube is a little off, the lamp is going to pop or short out way sooner than it should. That’s why we don’t just “hope” they work. We put every single unit through wet-heat aging tests. Basically, we try to break them before they ever leave our warehouse. The battle against steam Here’s the thing about water vapor—it doesn’t just sit on the outside. It finds the tiniest gaps in the housing and sneaks into the connectors. Once that moisture hits the electrical contacts? Oxidation kicks in. That creates resistance, things start overheating at the terminals, and then—pop—your lamp is dead. To stop this, we throw the heaters into a high-humidity chamber. We force months of wear and tear to happen in a few days. If we see a tiny bit of corrosion or any clouding on the quartz, it’s a fail. The shock factor Think about what happens when you flip the switch. A bathroom heater goes from freezing cold to 500°C in a heartbeat. That puts a massive amount of stress on where the glass meets the metal. We run these things on and off, over and over, in a damp room. We want to see if that constant expanding and contracting cracks the seals. If even a tiny bit of halogen gas leaks out, the filament burns out instantly. It’s brutal, but it’s the only way to be sure. A quick reality check Now, I’ll be straight with you: no waterproof rating is a magic shield. Our housings are built to handle splashes, but constant, heavy steam will eventually wear down any gasket. Plus, how you install the thing matters. If you tuck it into a tight spot with no airflow, you’re trapping heat and moisture right against the unit. That’ll kill the lamp regardless of how many tests we run. We build our gear to take a beating, but giving it a little room to breathe will make it last a whole lot longer.
