The Trade-off: Power vs. Maintenance
Here is the thing: these lamps pack a massive punch. If you’re doing PET blowing or rapid curing, you need that intensity. But that kind of power puts a lot of stress on the quartz. We use halogen cycling to help the filament last longer, but you still have to do your part.Keep your reflectors clean. Seriously. If dust builds up on a short wave lamp, it creates hot spots. Those hot spots lead to cracks, and a cracked lamp is a dead lamp.
A Few Things to Check Before You Plug In
If you’re bumping up the wattage or changing the voltage to push more product through your line, take a quick look at your power supply. High-wattage SWIR lamps are thirsty—they draw a lot of current. Make sure your wiring gauge and contactors can actually handle the load. If they can’t, you’ll see voltage drops at the ends of the lamp. And one last tip: make sure the interface is snug. If the fit is loose, you’ll get arcing. And arcing is the fastest way to kill a brand-new lamp.
